Sucker Punched

Well, as Christmas season winds down, (we stretch it out with a small white January tree with all our snowmen ornaments!), we now must turn our attention to the seriousness of the past few weeks.

After our MRI in early December showed new growth, new symptoms over the holidays began.  Amy has lost the of feeling on the whole left side, followed by loss of control on that side.  we had another MRI and it revealed additional growth as well.

 

We've now switched medicines twice in about a month. The next two offerings from the Oncologist Dr. Becdach were PCV, a combination of three harsh chemotherapies, or Temodar a drug that was previously passed over due to tumor tissue analysis (on original resection tissue, which could have changed by now).

 

Amy has chosen to go with quality vs. quantity, and use Temodar as her next weapon in her battle. She will likely tolerate the side effects enough to spend time with everyone, and as we prayerfully hope that this will buy us more time to wait for her greatest desire to go to Dr. Burzynski. However as we have been contacting them often, and we have recently been told that they have placed a hold on admitted new patients until they update their documentation or protocol. They didn't clarify, though I asked.

 

With the growth we're seeing in these elegant (brainstem, pons, thalamus) areas, we are preparing for any outcome, praying for the best, and hoping for a miracle.

As we laugh together and cry together during this stage, let us all recognize the importance of each day, and every loving thought we may hesitate to express.
